17th Gyalwa Karmapa Thaye Dorje
visits his European seat in France
Dhagpo Kagyu Ling

Dhagpo Kagyu Ling, the place of the transmission of the teachings,
founded by the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa in 1975, is the principal European
centre for the preservation and dissemination of the Kagyu tradition.
The Gyalwa Karmapa is a
fully enlightened being, holder of a the « transmission
of the teachings », the Kagyu lineage of Buddhism. Thaye
Dorje is recognized as the 17th incarnation of the Karmapas prophesied
by the Buddha :
«
In the northern country will appear the one who increases virtue, the
supreme spiritual friend, the one who possesses the greatest enlightened
power, who has the greatest ascetic ability, who many will listen to. »

The Four Noble Truths (teaching)
When
the Buddha embarked upon his spiritual journey, he raised four
essential questions: What is the nature of suffering? What is its
origin? Can it be ended? Which path leads beyond suffering?
The answer to these questions has taken the form of the founding
doctrine of Buddhism:
the Four
Noble Truths. Gyalwa Karmapa will give us instructions that clarify
the
meaning of this essential teaching.

meditation with the lamas of Dhagpo.

The six paramitas (teaching)
Awakened
mind is based on the motivation to free all beings from suffering
and help them attain perfect enlightenment. A goal such as this
can
not be
reached through prayer alone; we must also receive instructions, assimilate
them and apply them to our lives. In this teaching, the Gyalwa
Karmapa
will
explain the six paramitas, the qualities that must be developed in
order to
accomplish the two benefits: our own and that of other beings.

Vows
are a commitment we undertake in order to help us maintain proper
ethical behaviour. The moral code of a Bodhisattva is the commitment
to
accomplish the benefit of all beings without exception a pledge
that
requires a great deal of courage and patience. Gyalwa Karmapa will
give us
the Bodhisattva vows as the basis of the path that leads to complete
enlightenment.

Gyalwa Karmapa
Chenrezi Empowerment
Chenrezi
is the Buddha of love and compassion. OM MANI PÉMÉ HOUNG
is his
mantra. The very expression of the pure speech of the deity, it is
called
the king of mantras because it purifies all veils and leads to perfect
liberation. In order to practice the meditation of Chenrezi, one must
first
receive the empowerment. The empowerment may also be received as
a simple
blessing, establishing a spiritual connection between the participant
and
the deity.

Dorjé Sempa Empowerment
Dordjé Sempa,
or Vajrasattva, is the manifestation of the pure, timeless aspect of
the mind. His mantra is called the Hundred Syllable Mantra. This practice
leads to the purification of negativities and karmic veils and brings
our essential nature to light. Receiving this empowerment is considered
to be a powerful purification; it is connected to the practice of confession.
